How To Make A Resume

How The Right Digits In Your Resume Can Make All The Difference.

When it comes to formulating your resume, we know that it’s not essentially what you write, but how you write in, where you write it and so on.

Whilst the words are vital, when striving for that eye catching resume, it is vital to remember the importance of utilising figures in order to increase your chances of interview.

Think about it. We talk about knowing the ‘facts and figures’, and in the modern world it’s the numbers that matter. Make your numbers count and be seen in your resume.

Of course I’m not just talking about the page numbers. This is where the figures matter as much as the facts. Are you in sales? Did you work with a budget or business development? If so, the numbers mattered, and if your targets were achieved then you need to tell prospective employers about them.

Your resume is as much about your accomplishments as well as your previous responsibilities. Rather than simply describing the fact that you sold X, Y or Z, you really need to be telling the reader that you sold XX AMOUNT of product/services for the company. This is what will distinguish you as an asset rather than simply an employee.

If you weren’t in direct sales, but managed clients and accounts – use your resume to tell us HOW MANY you handled during your tenure. This will show you as both organised and dynamic.

By stating figures in your resume you are painting a clear and honest (please) picture of what an employer can truly expect from you, and your accomplishments.

Let’s face it though; the most important figures in your resume are likely to be the monetary type. If you sold – how MUCH in monetary terms did you generate, If you handles clients, what was the AMOUNT of business generated by you for your company? Again if these figures are upfront and available, it shows the prospective employer exactly how capable you are at the job in hand – whilst obviously taking into consideration the boundaries of business size and seniority of past roles for example.

Taker the opportunity to be as explicit as possible also – if you sold different products or services – detail each – the more in ‘sales’ the better.

Then there are the other important numbers – those on the clock. How quickly did you sell, or how well did you meet your deadlines or within what timeframe did you hit your impressive targets. Again, detail as much as possible to present a vivid picture of your accomplishments.

Whilst the facts remain, when it comes to your resume, the figures are vital too!
